MES was founded at the beginning of 2007 by Frank Müller-Eberstein, based on his desire to pass on the experience of his 35-years’ work in the public transport sector to interested companies, especially from Central and Eastern Europe.
From many visits to public transport operators in Central and Eastern Europe, through personal contact with the UITP colleagues there, as well as from requests that came from those meetings, it became clear that the public transport companies there are facing the same challenges as the Eastern German companies encountered after the reunification of Germany. Since the financial and resource constraints of companies in Central and Eastern Europe present significant challenges, Frank Müller-Eberstein has developed a vision for MES that is based on a shared responsibility to offer help and support in the area of Consulting and Service - through MES.
Based on the experience gained from the reorganization and modernization of the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB AG), feasible and realistic recommendations on the basis of thorough analysis can be developed for public transportation services that have yet to face the challenges of competition, modernization and profitability. Recent projects include consultancy work for the public transport operators in Krasnodar, Volgograd and Sibiu. Another field of activity is the procurement of used buses and trams; the strict requirements mean that vehicles used in German public transport are in a very good condition even after taking account of high kilometre usage and age. In Eastern German companies, a number of Tatra-Trams were practically rebuilt with the intention that they would be used for many more years after the reunification of Germany. These vehicles are gradually being replaced and are now available at an attractive cost for a ‘second life’ in Central and Eastern European companies. The purchase of these vehicles would be much more economical than modernisation of older vehicles in existing fleets. To assist in this process, MES in association with the UITP is able to act as a fair and reasonable intermediary in negotiations between suppliers and prospective customers. (also see Services )
